Artist's Statement

“Art comes to you proposing frankly to give nothing but the highest quality to your moments as they pass.”
 –Walter Pater

I’ve been experimenting with different media for over twenty years. I’ve made decorative papers and handmade books, monotype and collagraph prints, dyed cloth and made art quilts. Playing with different materials has helped my work evolve and I have learned to trust my intuition.

In the past few years I have returned to my first love which is oil painting. I enjoy landscape and abstract painting as well as mixed media work. My landscapes are mostly done in plein air, and are small and painted quickly. I paint near home and on my travels, usually making at least a few trips to Maine each summer. My non-objective and abstract paintings start with random marks that are based more on my mood than on an idea. I respond to what happens in front of me as the work progresses.

Making art is a meditative and joyful practice where time passes unnoticed and magically. It’s the play and the journey that inspires me the most.
